Aug 16, 2010 - @landza99 Women and girls will get attention from men if they wear cement casing around thier bodies. That is what a man does, even the Quran states that men desire women over all other things. The purpose of the Hijab is to let you know that you are looking at a Muslim woman. When I look at a lady in a Hijab I become attentive that she is a Muslim woman. The Literal definition of the word Hijab is "Shield" not "prevent attention." You are applying the Western definition to the word Hijab.

Jul 22, 2010 - @landza99 just bcuz us women have to wear hijab tht doest mean tht we cant have fun. i mean, did Allah (SWT) tell us ok listen to me pray five times a day etc etc but just dont have fun whtvr u do dont have fun. no He didnt! The main thing is about wearing hijab is ur sense of sacrifice and tht u wont think about taking it off and never wearing it again. Its rlly all about the sacrifice.

May 24, 2010 - @duhokiemar true but if it becomes a source of attraction for opposite sex then again its purpose is nullified.Simple as that. If one has flair for a fashion then she practice within her female friends and family members and especially her hubby. The point is opp sex should not get "Charmed" by outer appearances. This applies to MEN also when they carry themselves and should not be ogling at the "sisters in Faith". Both ways and both genders...

May 12, 2010 - @tranurse - 2) Point is, dont make yourself look like youre asking for attention. Just make sure you look like you take care of yourself. Also, some people spend more time worrying about their appearance, rather than practicing Islam (praying, etc). This is when appearance becomes a sin. Hope that cleared things up a bit :).

May 12, 2010 - @tranurse - 1) @tranurse - You're somewhat correct. Islam says that Muslims (men & women) are to look nice/pleasant and CLEAN. However, we are not supposed to look extravagant. Pleasant = wear clean, nice clothes. A person would look at you and say "ah, she looks like she takes care of herself". However, extravagant = heavy, flashy makeup & clothes. A person would look at you and say "wow now that's a bold/unique outfit, and very bold makeup too!".

Apr 27, 2010 - @landza99 i'm not a muslim, so i do come to this discussion at a certain disadvantage. but what is wrong with attempting to look nice? if a person is covered, isn't that what she is supposed to do? i thought somewhere in the koran there is a passage where muhammed tells followers to look nice, not dour as that would bring more attention to them. i don't think wanting something pretty is a sin. thank you.

Dec 18, 2009 - @zerroffff it's true that the hijab should conceal, but changing styles once in a while doesn't hurt! it doesn't mean that we are trying to attract.
